Minna Haapakoski designs interiors and other products, and she loves her work. She creates all kinds of interiors, always matching the customer’s style, regardless of whether the place is a private home, a public space or the set of a TV series.

“Every project is always unique, and I love that I have the chance to do so many different kinds of jobs. One day I may be designing a Spanish luxury villa for a TV production, and the next I’m setting up a student pad and looking for furniture in the flea market.”

She became interested in interior design already as a little girl.

“At my parents’ home, we redecorated often, meaning that we put the furniture into different places and turned old into new. Playing with Barbie dolls with my friends always started with me first creating homes for all of the Barbies. Being creative and coming up with ideas was even more important than actually playing with the dolls.”

Hot tub brings the cherished element of water into everyday life

Minna’s love of water also has its roots in her childhood. As a small child, she spent the summers close to water, where she could experience the scent and sounds of water every day. However, there never was enough room for a bathtub at home, or even a hot tub in the yard of her current everyday home. Luckily, her new holiday home is built on the seashore.

“At last, we have a plot with enough space for our own hot tub!”

Minna looked for different kinds of hot tubs online, and Kirami’s Chill hot tub caught her attention immediately.

“Chill had an interesting design, and I thought that it might be easier to relax there than in a sit-down model. The size was also a good fit for our family: there’s two of us adults and our 8-year-old son.”

Another important criterion was whether the hot tub would fit its location.

“It was important for us that the hot tub was shallow enough to make it easier to sink it into the patio. At the same time, we needed to be able to drain the water out easily without having to dig a deep hole.”

Unfortunately for Minna, the Chill hot tub was not available to view at a shop, but she was still bold enough to order and is now very happy with her choice.

Looking forward to starry nights and sunsets

The hot tub is integrated into the lower patio of the holiday home, and the upper patio is three steps above it. The cottage is on the same level as the upper patio.

“The sauna in the cottage has a large glass wall, and you can see the hot tub from there. The hot tub itself has an amazing sea view, and it’s been wonderful to sit there during these chilly, starry nights – surrounded by candles with a beanie on your head.”

Minna says that indirect lighting creates atmosphere while enjoying the hot tub. She is already looking forward to the sunsets in summer evenings and the night of Midsummer Eve, when the hot tub could be ringed by fragrant bundles of birch branches. The hot tub night of her dreams also includes good company, music flowing from the Bluetooth speaker and cold drinks. The drinks can be placed on convenient surfaces created by integrating the hot tub into a square platform on the patio.

The hot tub has proven itself to be a great purchase and an excellent way to relax.

“Now in the autumn and winter, we have been heating it up on Saturday nights, and we can easily spend three hours just sitting in the tub. It’s great for having a good chat where you can really focus on how the other people are doing.”

The hot tub was purchased recently enough that they have only had time to enjoy it with their own family so far. The son of the family enjoys the hot tub just as much as Minna does, and he is always eagerly waiting for it to be heated up.

“We could stay forever in the hot tub!”

Placement tips by an interior designer

Minna gives tips from the point of view of a professional on landscaping and deciding what the hot tub should look like. However, she notes that the best solution always depends on the situation and what the buyer of the hot tub wants.

Placement tips by an interior designer

•    The most important thing is the location: the way the hot tub looks must suit the place selected for it. Of course, safety must always be kept in mind!
•    Out of the different options for the external surface of the hot tub, you can pick the one that matches the environment the best.
•    Integrating the hot tub into the patio looks cleaner when there are not too many different kinds of materials visible. An added benefit to integration is having more surface next to the tub where you can put things.
•    It may be a good idea to consider the placement of different outdoor areas in relation to each other, such as bathing, socialising and dining areas – even indoors, few people would want to have the dinner table right next to the bathtub.
•    You should make sure that there is enough patio space or other surface around the hot tub to keep your toes clean on your way to the tub.
•    An interior designer can help with designing the patio, or a garden designer if the plan also includes garden plants.
